San Diego Comic-Con Exclusives: Where to Put Your Money
Are you ready for the biggest pop culture buying festival of the year?
Hello, and welcome to the uncanny seventh issue of Collectibulls - your monthly tracker of the hottest new collectibles across the pop culture world.TL;DR: This newsletter is not investment advice.
🚨 Hot List
SDCC 2024 Exclusives
COMICS. ACTION FIGURES. EVERYTHING.
The biggest comic-con is less than 1 month away and the exclusive comics and action figure images have been dropping like crazy and has everyone excited.
There are a few I am excited about like the GI Joe Once-A-Man Cobra Commander action figure ($40) from GI Joe: The Movie which is such a deep cut how can any child of the 80s not want it? Hasbro must know how old the people who buy their exclusives are, since they are also offering a Death’s Head action figure ($40) - a character from the Doctor Who and Transformers UK comics - deeeep cut! The SDCC Unofficial Blog is keeping track of all the new stuff dropped.
Here are 5 of my personal favorites based on coolness or nostalgia:
Superman 7″ Scale Gold Label Figure from McFarlane Toys ($40)
G.I. Joe: Snake Eyes – Commando Edition from Mezco ($112)
Batman Hot Wheels Batmobile Collector Set from Mattel ($50)
Bubblegum Crisis: Complete Archive Hardcover Collection from Udon Studios ($70)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Eastman & Laird first appearances 40th Anniversary 2-pack from NECA ($70)
What are you buying?
It’s not hard to find out what the hot exclusives will be - just do a quick “SDCC pre-order” search on your favorite secondary market and you’ll find things like the Batman Hot Wheels collection already there for $140 and the SHFigurarts Son Goku and Son Goku 2-pack at $180.
Lets be honest though, going to SDCC is very expensive - $350 for a ticket, $300 a night hotel room x 4 nights, $500 airfare - so a 200% mark-up on these figures is not that bad in overall budgeting.
If you wanted to hit the show as an investor in exclusives this issue we will take a quick look at what has hit big in Comic-Cons of the past 2 years. If you ever wondered why there were massive lines at the Funko area of SDCC: now you’ll know.
